After a few week's absense The Mowamba Report is back with a vengeance. This week we have an interview with an excellent up and coming actress from the independent horror scene.

Sweet Melissa!

An interview with independent horror actress Melissa Bacelar!

(Q): How did you get started in the entertainment industry?

(A): Well one day I woke up...naked and started walking around my room. The blinds on my bedroom window were opened and after a few minutes I noticed that the neighborhood boys had collected and were staring at me. I loved it! I realized I was either born to be an actress or a voyeur. I grew up Catholic so I figured acting would be less controversial.

(Q): Your first film was with Troma in the Toxic Avenger IV Citizen Toxie. Can you tell us a little about your role and how you got it?

Sure. A very good friend of mine and awesome writer, Joshua Nelson, saw the audition posting. He was a huge fan of Troma and assumed that they would like me..Considering I have boobs and all. So he submitted my picture and I got an audition. I went in for the role of slutty news reporter and booked it..But when I showed up they told me I was playing Dr Hocking's Nurse. Apparently I wasn't slutty enough?? The Nurse role was really cool because I got to wheel around James Gunn and play with a penile implant!

(Q): You also did Dawn of the Locusts with Troma. Can you tell us a little about that?

(A): Wow. Yes I can. This was low budget film making at it's finest. I met the director at The Cannes Film Festival in 2000 and he told me about this cool project he was doing about a Super Hero that can talk to Corn. I am a big sucker for Super Heroes and it was filming in Denton, Texas (how can you pass up the glitz and glamour of Denton in August!). So I flew out for 10 days and had a great time w/ a bunch of really cool people. I also did my first lesbian scene in that film!! That was fun.

(Q): How was it working on a Troma film and with Lloyd Kaufman?

(A): Lloyd is soooo...I mean he is a character that you can only imagine if you meet him. I don't know if that makes sense. But he is a trip to work for. I often tell people that I arrived on that set with all my Meisner training ready to go and walked off that set knowing that "Cold girls in tube tops make for good cinema."

(Q): You also were in Strange Things Happen at Sundown. Can you tell us a little about it?

(A): This film amazes me. It is the first film that the Insane O Rama guys did and it is fantastic! Basically, it proves that horror fans know what horror fans want!

(Q): You have been in quite a few horror movies now were you always a fan of horror movies?

(A): Not until my first convention. I was pretty new to the horror film world when I walked on to Citizen Toxie. But Troma took me to quite a few conventions and I loved every one. The fans are great and the people that make the films have such a passion for the genre!! Now I look forward to each script I get. I watch as many indies as possible and I try and appreciate the studio horror films!

(Q): Now you will also be in the upcoming Charles Band film Dead Man's Hand? Can you tell us a little about what to expect and about your role?

(A): Ok, this is weird. There are 2 Dead Man's Hands and IMDB sort of meshed them together. Unfortunately the one I am in does not have Sid Haig or Michael Berryman in it. Which totally sux. But it is going to be an awesome movie. We are shooting it in April and there are going to be a lot of very cool animal attacks in it. Seriously, live Lions and Tigers and Bears!! My character, Dr. Boots, owns a Zoo and she finds the top High School Students from around the country to join her for a weekend and work with the animals. So hot young actors, boobs, blood and big scary animals!!

(Q): Then you also have two more upcoming horror movies Eat Your Heart Out, and Pink Eye. Both written by Joshua Nelson and Directed by James Tucker who made the movie Aunt Rose. Can you tell us a little about these?

(A): Joshua Nelson and James Tucker are two of the greatest guys to work with. They are so professional and considerate of their actors and they put out a great product. Most of the crew on both of these films was the same. From, Jeremy Selenfriend, the special FX artist to Elizabeth Gerbino, the Makeup Artist...Everyone was great. I think when you can get a group of people together that are talented and like to work together the movies are going to be really good!! Eat Your Heart Out is done and I am really proud of it! It's kind of funny, which is weird and unexpected from a Zombie film. But the writing is good and the plot is very entertaining. I am also almost naked and full of blood through the whole thing! And Pink Eye...My God, the script was scary and the lead actor, Joshua James, is phenomenal. I play a victim in that one and he really scared me. I had nightmares!!

(Q): Out of all the horror movie you did so far what has been your favorite role and why?

(A): It's funny..But I will always have a special place in my heart for Pandora (Eat Your Heart Out). Something about a Zombie/Hooker who eats her johns instead of doing them..It's all so sweet, I get a little misty eyed just thinking about her. Plus the costumes were awesome.

(Q): Are there any other upcoming movies or projects you want to tell the fans about?

(A): I have 4 scripts right now that are supposed to be filming soon and they all are creepy and bloody and fun. But since nothing is solid I will wait on the shameless plugging. However, I will tell you to look for Eat Your Heart Out soon and check my website often for updates! www.MelissaBacelar.com

(Q): Thanks you so much for doing this interview with me. Is there anything else you would like to say?

(A): Well thank you. I am a big fan and I hope I get lots of emails from everyone who reads this. I don't sleep so emails are always welcome. Otherwise I shop on the Internet and end up with tons of useless crap!
