4 Out of 5 Skulls
Destruction Kings is a film made by Low Budget Pictures which is a company owned by Chris Seaver, who we aren't that familiar with here at DEADPIT. The film is supposedly based on an idea by legendary scream queen, Debbie Rochon. The two lead characters in the movie go by the names of Mr. Bonejack and Teen Ape and I assume they are reoccurring characters in other 'Low Budget' films. It's always great to find a new studio out there, and in this case it's FUCKTASTIC if you will.
The Destruction Kings are Bonejack and Teen Ape, P.I.A agents who are thrown into a case they may not be prepared for. Along with Brandy (played by B-regular Ariauna Albright) and trio of teenage horror/monster fanatics they must stop Dracula, The Wolfman and Funkenstein from taking over the world with a particular amulet. (I promise I'm not getting this confused with another movie). As all of this unfolds, comedy is in profusion and is never strayed from. You can't take 5 seconds of the film seriously...which I loved.
The film borrows and pays tribute to many films from the 1980's. You will notice plenty of references to one of my favorite films, 'The Monster Squad' (look at the dvd cover for christ's sake) , Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bill Cosby impersonations/quotes, teenagers fighting monsters with nunchakus, and a whole hell of a lot more of that classic, creamy 80's goodness that many take pleasure in. The movie is filthy-comical, and a genuine breath of fresh air for horror comedy fans worldwide. If you're like me, not familiar with the lead characters, Mr. Bonejack and Teen Ape are horny, foul-mouthed and damn entertaining to say the least. Other things to watch for in the film: Our favorite mother-canucker Brett Kelly in a short but memorable role, a scene with a prosthetic vagina squirting blood everywhere, a shit-slinging man-ape and the character Funkenstein who enjoys beat-boxing Fat Boys style with a Mr. Belvedere accent! This film is seriously too amusing for me, I wish I could enlighten you more. I live for movies like this, and I can't wait to see more from Chris Seaver.
The dvd additionally has a fair amount of extras, we have an audio commentary with Chris Seaver and Casey Bowker, Still gallery and music montage, Outtakes reel, and a 24 minute Debbie Rochon featurette. All in all it's undeniably worth twice the price of admission. In the end, this is another entertaining b-horror/comedy that I whole heartedly recommend, at just a 71 minute run time I was left wanting more. Here is to Destruction Kings 2: Electric Boogaloo!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
