5 Out of 5 Skulls

inline Image Since I heard that Anchor Bay was releasing 'Halloween 25 Years of Terror' I knew that they would do it justice. I never knew just exactly HOW MUCH would be included in this wonderful 2 disc set. Being a Halloween fan since I was a very young kid (around the age of 8 when I saw part 4 in theaters) this was a natural MUST BUY for me. Michael Myers pre-dates Freddy and Jason...and 'Halloween' definitely was the film that kick-started the 80's slasher craze in that we got so many great slasher films. However none greater than John Carpenter's original Halloween!

This dvd set is essentially a holy grail for fans of the Halloween franchise. The 84 minute documentary on the Halloween films is very in-depth, covering the first Halloween and all 7 sequels. With members of the cast and crew from each film. The legendary Tom Atkins from the thoroughly hated part 3 even makes an appearance. Also randomly appearing are fans of the franchise from Clive Barker to the newest Halloween director, Rob Zombie. While the documentary preferably could have been longer it was still altogether captivating. Some of the interviews were taken from the panel discussions at the 'Return to Haddonfield' convention, while others were recorded later...or years earlier in the case of John Carpenter, Debra Hill and Jamie Lee Curtis. The only factions I missed from the documentary were P.J. Soles (who was the narrator but offered no insight on the film) and Charles Cyphers who was at the convention but wasn't added to the actual documentary. Other than that, it was perfect I'm sure I'll watch it a dozen more times. inline Image

The extras are in such abundance.... well you might as well cry with glee. Over 4 hours of features in this set. We have an episode of Sean Clark's 'Horror's Hallowed Grounds' which is around 20 minutes of what the locations look like now in Pasadena California. I found this feature to be the most appealing one in the set and I know they have done more episodes from other famous horror locations. In addition to that we have Extended Interviews, Halloween 5 on-set Footage, Halloween Convention montage, Fans of Halloween - Collections of Props & Memorabilia. That's just on the first disc, haha. Now once we get onto disc 2 you'll notice that you have the complete panel discussions that were filmed at the 'Return to Haddonfield' convention. The discussions that are included are: Halloween, Halloween II, Halloween 6 and separate discussions with Ellie Cornell, a Michael Myers panel, Producers of Halloween and a Dean Cundey panel.... These are addicting, seriously even the Halloween 6 panel is around 20 minutes and entertaining for all of that. The panels are something that I hope will become a part of more discs in the future. Rounding out disc 2 is a stills gallery, behind the scenes of the 'Return to Haddonfield' convention gallery and original artwork gallery. This set is capacious if you will.

inline Image In closing, if any release ever deserved 5 skulls...its this big bad boy. While we aren't really offered any new material from John Carpenter its still 150% worth the $19.99 retail price. If you're a Halloween fan, you've probably already pre-ordered this. If you're a slasher fan you need to own this and if you're a horror fan in general you SHOULD own this. Anchor Bay has outdid themselves again!! I have four words for everyone involved with this set: THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
